10 Top Bloggers Who Are Excited to Watch Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Skyscraper’

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is undoubtedly the biggest movie star in the world, and all future generations should refer to this time period in cinema as “The Rock Era.” Not only did he dominate the WWE for over ten years, but jumping into Hollywood as successfully as he did, becoming the highest grossing actor in the birthplace of the film industry – how can you top that?

In under two years, Dwayne has tackled all sorts of projects, from Central Intelligence, to Moana, to Fate of the Furious, to Baywatch, to Jumanji, to Rampage, to the upcoming thriller Skyscraper. Which makes us all wonder, what can’t “The Rock” do?

Okay, I spoke too soon. Technically speaking, he can’t do this:

Though physically impossible, this crazy stunt is why I’m watching this movie. In my eyes, Dwayne Johnson is invincible and I’m excited to be proven right.  And, I’m not the only person looking forward to seeing “The Rock” on the big screen once again, displaying the unimaginable. Here are 10 Top Bloggers just as excited to see the tallest man in Hollywood take on the tallest building on Earth:

1. Dan LaMorte (@DanLaMorte– NYC City based comedian, comedy writer, and podcaster appearing regularly at the Comedy Cellar. Host and creator of “Middle Easy Fist Fight Podcast,” a credentialed member of the MMA press.

“I know very little about Dwayne Johnson’s new movie, “Skyscraper.” I do know that it’ll be nice to see him working with something so tall, when we’re used to see him work with something so short; Kevin Hart. The creepy dude from Orange is the New Black is in it as well, who I assume at some point will dramatically fall off the skyscraper. The only disappointment is that Neve Campbell is in it, I have nothing against her, I just thought that was the name of the dude from MTV’s Catfish. He would have showed up and been like, “Skyscraper, why have you been posting pictures of a small house on your Tinder?” But I digress, The Rock is a showman, I have no doubt this movie will be anything but incredible…with or without the Catfish dude.”

2. John Canton (@johnreport– Owner and editor of TJR Wrestling.net, WWE writer for The Comeback, a popular sports and pop culture site.

“Dwayne Johnson has always been the coolest guy in the room going back to his WWE days when he became The Rock. Whether in a ring or jumping onto the tallest building in the world like he does in ‘Skyscraper,” it’s easy to be captivated by anything this man does. When you add in some of Johnson’s trademark sense of humor, it makes for a fun time at the movies. Skyscraper looks like another exciting action movie from the master of the People’s Elbow.”

3. John Squires (@FreddyInSpace– Journalist in the horror community and the current editor in chief of Bloody Disgusting, the #1 horror website on the internet.

“There’s a line in the Skyscraper trailer that, for me, sums up why I’m excited not just about this movie but literally every movie Dwayne Johnson stars in. After the trailer shows us Johnson leaping off a giant crane into the titular skyscraper – a ridiculously over the top scene that requires you to leave your disbelief at the door – it cuts to a moment where Neve Campbell’s character asks him how he managed to get into the building. “I jumped off a super-crane,” Johnson casually replies, as if his death-defying leap of faith was hardly a big deal. It’s a moment, like many in Johnson’s films, where the movie seems to be poking fun at itself, letting us know that it knows it’s ridiculous fun and isn’t trying to be anything more than that. And that’s what it’s all about. When you buy a ticket to see a Dwayne Johnson movie, you’re guaranteed a good time. The sort of good time that made us fall in love with action films in the first place. And Skyscraper looks like yet another damn good time.”

4. Andrew Gutman (@GUTMAN26) – Staff writer at Muscle & Fitness magazine.

“First, there was Arnold, Stallone, Van Damme, and now Dwayne Johnson–he’s the blockbuster savant that is (and will continue to be) responsible for some of the most testosterone-fueled, action-packed flicks in Hollywood. Sure, his movies may lack in story, developed sub-plots, and thoughtful themes–but that’s not why you watch a Dwayne Johnson flick. You go to watch him kick ass, take no names, kick more ass, and make you question the laws of physics. Simply put, they rock. And that’s why I’m pumped to check out Skyscraper.”

5. Eric Francisco (@ERICxFRANCISCO– Staff writer at Inverse.com, which covers the latest news on science, innovation, entertainment, technology, and culture by asking: What could happen next?

“I’m excited to see Dwayne Johnson evolve as a movie star. I know, sounds crazy, he’s the most famous person on the planet. But the thing about Dwayne is that his larger-than-life image has kind of been against him. His literally larger-than-life physique is difficult to latch on to, you can’t buy him as an everyman. But SKYSCRAPER, with the character element of being disabled, I think is exactly the kind of thing that can make Dwayne Johnson more than just a movie superhero. In SKYSCRAPER, he might be one of us.”

6. Erin Alexander (@erin_alexander8)– Assistant Editor of Partner Content at Food52.com, contributor for mensfitness.com, mensjournal.com, musclandfitness.com.

“I’m always excited to see anything that The Rock does, whether it’s a film or his line of workout wear for Under Armor. He’s mastered the art of blending action with comedy, works harder than anyone else in the room, and genuinely seems like one of the nicest guys in Hollywood. I can’t wait to watch Skyscraper based on the trailer alone—you can already tell it’s going to be that perfect mix of heart-pumping stunts, heartfelt moments, and The Rock’s now-signature sense of humor.”

7. Dan Jackson (@danielvjackson– Staff writer at Thrillest Entertainment.

“This year’s Rampage, which found Johnson battling enormous animals and flying a helicopter around, might have been a dud, but we still have high hopes for the other movie where he performs insane physical feats in a disaster scenario. When it comes to the Rock, we’re optimists! Especially when he’s playing a former FBI Hostage Rescue Team Leader protecting a giant futuristic building under siege by terrorists. It’s Die Hard with the Rock – where do we line up?”

8. Brian Riley (@Brian__Riley)– Freelance content creator, contributor on mensfitness.com, muscleandfitness.com, and mensjournal.com.

“Life is complicated, but sometimes it can be extremely simple. So when I discovered Dwayne Johnson would be staring in an over-the-top action film in which he’s trapped inside of a burning building tasked with saving his family, I was in. The Rock’s films aren’t the most cinematic pieces of art to hit the theaters, but they’re not supposed to be and that’s ok. When Johnson hits the silver screen it’s a guaranteed two hours of entertainment no matter how ridiculous the premise.”

9. Ryan Lambie (@ryanlambie)Simon Brew (@simonbrew) Kirsten Howard (@emotionalpedant– Staff at denofgeek.com.

“Along with Den of Geek pin-up Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson is still flying the flag for big action movies, and Skyscrapersounds like another throwback to the genre’s 80s heyday. Johnson plays Will Ford, an ex-Fed who’s framed for setting ablaze the world’s tallest building; Ford goes on the run and, hoping to clear his name, resolves to track down the true culprits. If you’re concerned this one will take itself too seriously, bear in mind that it’s written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who previously brought us the downright hilarious Dodgeball and We’re The Millers. We’re guessing Skyscraper won’t be the most subtle film we’ll see in 2018, but we’ll wager that it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

10. Conner Schwerdtfeger (@ConnerWS– Staff writer at cinemablend.com.

“Beyond the fact that Will Sawyer only has one leg, Skyscraper looks incredibly intriguing just for the ways in which it blends elements of classic genres, while also telling a new story. When Dwayne Johnson released a first-look at the movie on social media last week, he specifically emphasized the fact that it’s not based upon any existing property, franchise or piece of intellectual property. That said, it also seems to play like a love letter to classic disaster movies like The Towering Inferno (which The Rock’s San Andreas also did in 2015), as well as action classics like Die Hard. Couple that with The Rock’s inherent box office appeal, and there are a number of reasons to start getting excited about Skyscraper’s particular brand of action.”

BONUS BLOGGER: Matthew Jussim (@matt_jussim) – Freelance contributor mensjournal.com, muscleandfitness.com.

“Growing up, action movies were my favorite kind of films, and “Die Hard” was number one on the list. So when I heard that Dwayne Johnson—the biggest action star in the world—was making a movie about saving people from a massive Skyscraper (and that it was called Skyscraper!) the little kid inside me got as excited as ever. While Johnson’s movies might not always be award-winning material or even make total sense plot-wise, you know you’re always getting a passionate performance from someone who cares about what they do. The Rock works just as hard—perhaps even harder than anyone—in Hollywood, and that’s why I love seeing his movies. And now that he gets to be his own version of John McClane, I’ll certainly be in line to see it. ”

Skyscraper will be in theaters everywhere July 13th. Are you excited?
