David Wright’s Career Will End With a Legend’s Sendoff at Citi Field

Okay, I am not a Mets fan, but today has gone from Hurricane-forced winds to blue & somber. I just found out that David Wright will play in one last game for the New York Mets.

Though, when I really think about it, I have no idea what happened to him the past four years, and Wright basically disappeared from the game of baseball. I don’t mean this with disrespect, in fact, the man deserves as much respect as my hero, Derek Jeter, who played his last game just a few years ago. I just mean that for some reason the media showed no love to this guy – as if they were sitting around for his retirement announcement for four consecutive seasons. Sadly, injury plays a major role in sports. The past few seasons Wright has been hampered by setback after setback, this after an explosive 2014 season where he was chosen as the “Face of MLB.” Time flies doesn’t it, it’s also short. 2015, only a year later, launched his downward spiral & on-and-off again relationship with the DL.

Injuries aside (especially during prime of his career), David Wright still deserves Hall of Fame contention. To me David Wright was one of the last “great ones.” A consistent above average producer in both the offensive & defensive categories, a shoe-in All-Star, AND ALWAYS CLUTCH (Except when facing Mariano) in an era of steroid baseball.

Much love to you David, I wish you always the best in your future. And thank you for staying the National League & only killing the Yankees seven times a year.

Today is sad day for all New Yorkers, as the last flame of a once MLB Giant (jk, it was the Blue Jays that almost got you in ’02) will flare out on September 29, 2018 against Derek Jeter’s Miami Marlins.

“I have a lot of thank yous…Mets ownership and the front office…teammates, coaches, and staff. It’s truly been an honor to take the field with you and serve as your captain…To the fans, words can’t express my gratitude and appreciation for always having my back.”

Wait is he retiring?

“Physically, the way I feel right now, and from what the doctors told me, there’s not going to be any improvement. So I don’t see [playing full-time again] as a possibility.”

Wait, I’m confused? Wait, yes, he is retiring. Godspeed David.
